San Jose ECS

The San Jose Exploring Computer Science (ECS) project is a partnership between Santa Clara University and ten local area high schools with a high percentage of underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students. This four-year project is supported by two NSF grants; the first provides curriculum workshops, equipment and support to teachers, while the second provides graduate assistants who are trained in the curriculum, appropriate pedagogy and the challenges of the high school classroom. Each graduate assistant is assigned to two teachers and spends 15 hours a week assisting them both inside and outside the classroom.

Concurrent efforts related to the project include (1) presentations by SCU undergraduates to encourage high school students to study computing and (2) the development and deployment of curriculum pathways that build on ECS.
