Should students be cleaning data?

During several of panels discussions, the issue of data cleaning came up. We heard from teachers that students are not at all excited about doing it, from data scientists that it really is a central part of the process that students ought to experience, and from everyone that it takes a lot of time, which poses a challenge when very limited class time is available for data lessons and projects. How important is it to engage students in cleaning data? How might you work it into your classes? What tools or strategies could help?
