The following resources were shared by panelists and participants during the panel discussion for Big Data: What's in it for High School Students? event held on Dececmber 5th, 2013.

  • Google Flu Trends project - For use as an example of exciting data: look at search terms to predict flu trends. Topic familiar to students and interesting to those interested in health fields.
  • Statista - site for data sets
  • Data.gov - site contains data sers and social graph data
  • USDA - offers an interesting dataset on food access
  • NodeXL  - free tool for data cleaning
  • Tableau Public - free, easy to use tool for data visualization. Data set becomes part of the public record.
  • TinkerPlots - used in education and education ressearch, for data visualizaions
  • Open Refine
  • Natural Language Toolkit (NLTK) - Need to know python to use it
