Research Participation Consent

The CS10K Community of Practice is participating in a research project funded by the U.S. Department of Education designed to provide information about how to make this and other online communities of practice more effective for the members. The researchers will analyze this online community in order to address questions such as: (1) Which activities result in the most engagement and interaction? (2) What roles emerge among participants in the community? (3) How do moderators encourage productive online interactions? Your participation in this research project is voluntary. You have the right to be a part of this study, to choose not to participate or to stop participating at any time without penalty. You will not receive anything for participating. There are no anticipated risks or benefits by participating in this study. You may be asked to engage in one or all of the following: (1) online surveys; (2) interviews (3) focus groups. In addition, raw data from your involvement in the community may be a fourth source of information used in analysis. Online surveys will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Interview and/ or focus groups will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. All responses to online surveys, interviews and/or focus groups, as well as community participation data, will be kept confidential and stored separately from any identifiable information, all on password-protected computers. Participation in online surveys, interviews and/or focus groups is strictly voluntary. What is learned from the research project will be included in US Department of Education reports. Research reports will NOT contain any information that identifies you. The reports may contain the name of your Project and its leaders.
