Engaging students in working with their own social media data

One source of data that participants in several discussions said would likely be engaging is students own social media participation. For example, Facebook allows you to download you data in a format that's reasonable to work with. We heard about several techniques from computational linguistics and social network analysis that might be applicable and accessible in ECS and CSP. What are you doing in your classes with social media data? What might you do, and what tools and techniques could help?

Nothing but I am really interested

The social graph's from Facebook that Lauren Amos displayed are compelling pieces for a high school classroom. They could be used as a basis for all sorts of discussions related to data, privacy, and visualization. At the same time, they seemed fairly simple to produce in a classroom environment.

The real need for me is to consolidate these ideas into a tangible sets of lessons. I would love to be part of a group that lays out a series of goals related to data-based lessons, finds the data sets and appropriate tools and then scaffolds the lessons well.
