The percentage of women in computer science versus other STEM fields.
Take a look at http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/11/15/women-gain-in-some-stem-fields-but-not-computer-science/?_r=3 about how the percentage of women in many STEM fields is increasing, but not in computer science. I got attracted to computing first in high school in a Basic programming class. But, I didn't expect to make a career out of it. It wasn't until I went to college and was majoring in political science that I decided to add a 2nd major in computer science. Eventually I decided that I liked computing and didn't want to go to law school, which was my original plan. I think that until we require at least some computer science in high school we won't really change the percentage of women in computing. Girls need a chance to fall in love with computing before they enter college.
What attracted you to computing? What do you think will really make a difference in the percentage of women in computing?
