MSPnet Webinar: The Current State of K-12 CS Education in the US (3/12/15)

User
A fellow NSF grantee, TERC, is offering an informative webinar on MSPnet about the national climate for computer science education, K-12, and the latest developments in this field.

Momentum is growing around expanding computing opportunities for students. Organizations like NSF and Code.org are working to improve computer science educational opportunities for all students, and especially females and underrepresented minorities. Still, opportunities for students to learn about computer science and master CS skills are relatively scarce.

Presenters Sarah Wille and Jeanne Century will provide an overview of what is currently happening in primary and secondary CS education, and will note areas for future research and development. Staff from Outlier Research & Evaluation at CEMSE at the University of Chicago will provide examples from their research and evaluation work including a current NSF-funded research project (the BASICS Study) that focuses on identifying key supports for and barriers to implementing introductory computer science in large school districts.

Presenters: Sarah Wille, Jeanne Century
Date/Time: March 12, 2015 2:00 PM EST
Duration: 1 hour
