Encouraging diversity in computer science education

NSF recently released a great feature on Joanne McGrath Cohoon's effort to promote diversity in computer science. Through a grant from NSF, Cohoon launched a series of summer programs known as Tapestry Workshops, marketed to high school CS teachers with an interest in attracting and educating more female and minority students. The workshops cover topics, such as recruiting, pedagogy, and evidence-based practices.

Just in Time: Tips for Computer Science Teachers When They Need It

CS educators of all stripes may be interested in NSF's recent article on the online professional development resources being developed by NSF grantee Aman Yadav and his team. This program aims to provide "just-in-time" support for new or experienced CS teachers who are taking on a new CS course. In-service teachers will be able to access these resources (e.g., videos, slideshows, instructions, and links to tools and activities)—whenever and wherever they are needed.
